about

Born in Lomé , Togo, Massama Dogo, DOGO du Togo's band leader, moved to the United States in 2000. He soon founded the DC based Afropop/Afrofunk band, Elikeh. They are known for their high-energy live performances and were featured on 2 successful Sol Power All-Stars releases - Djidjo Vide (2016) and Lomé Connections in Hi-Fi (2020).

DOGO du Togo takes a more traditional approach to its sound and is a reflection of Massama's roots -- they record in Togo with Togolese musicians and weave Togolese culture and traditional rhythms into their songs.

The original version of "Soké Wo" is an acoustic song is based on the Akpesse-Bobobo rhythm played by Ewe people in the Region des Plateaux in Togo. The dance has its roots from Wusuta and in the highlife sound that is popular across West Africa.

On this release the Sol Power All-Stars, aided by Daniel Meinecke's virtuosic keyboards, flip the acoustic original into a modern synth-driven dance track that falls neatly between the modern afrohouse and afrobeats sounds. This one is ready to cook dance floors across the globe this Sprin and Summer. Blazin!
